Why Do You Pray For Your Food?
January 16, 2011-
Callie had shared in Sunday School class that she had gone out to eat
with some friends who did not believe in God. Before eating she said,
"Shouldn't we pray before we eat?" I think that was amazing what Callie
did there and so proud of her for making a stand. Callie could have
easily started to eat without praying or pray silently, but she wasn't
afraid. God sees that!
Anyway, her friend asked something similar to, "Why do you pray for your food? God is not real. God didn't make the food. We bought the food with our own money. Popeye's made the chicken. We paid for the meal."
Here are a few ways you can reply, but also pray and ask God for wisdom on how to respond.

Answer:
- You can say, "You're right, the staff prepared and fried the chicken, but where do chickens come from? Did the Popeye's staff create the chicken that we're eating now? Where did they come from? The Bible says that God created the heavens and the earth, all the animals of the earth, and I believe that God made you and me for a purpose. He loves you whether you love Him back or not and I pray that one day you will see that God loves you and he has a purpose and a plan for you.
- You can also say, "I pray for my food because I realize that for me to sit here & get to eat today is a gift from God. Here I am not having to dig out of the trash for food. Here I am not dying from starvation. Here I am still able to feed myself, and here I am...I get to sit here and share about God with you without getting arrested or killed for mentioning the mere name of God.
- Or, you can say, "The fact that I am living and breathing is a miracle and I thank God for that and I pray for my food because you never know if what you eat might end up being the very thing that kills you."
- I
pray for my food because I'm thankful that I have food to eat. Look at
the people in Japan, Haiti, and the homeless who have no water or food.
I'm thankful that I do have food and I pray that God will provide
comfort, food, and water to those who need it.
